Dr. Nooman Ben Khalifa has been working as a researcher at the Institute of Forming Technology and Lightweight Construction (IUL), TU Dortmund University, since 2006 and earned his Ph.D. in Extrusion of Twisted Aluminum Profiles in 2012, under the supervision of Prof. A. Erman Tekkaya. From 2008 to 2011 Dr. Ben Khalifa was the head of the department of bulk metal forming, and in 2011 he took over the position of chief engineer responsible for research at the institute. He has over 60 research publications in various fields of metal forming. The focus of his research activities and also the focus of the IUL is the development and analysis of new metal forming processes for high strength materials as well as for hybrid materials.

Dr.-Ing. Paul F. Filz was born in 1957 in Cologne, Germany and studied mechanical engineering at the Technical University of Aachen, RWTH Aachen. From 1985 until 1988 Dr. Filz worked as scientific assistant at the Institut für Kunststoffverarbeitung (IKV) at RWTH Aachen, department Injection Moulding and graduated in 1988 the thesis „New developments for the simulation of the Injection Moulding Process of Thermoplastics“. Since 1988 Dr. Filz is managing director of Simcon kunststofftechnische Software GmbH in Würselen, Germany. As an all-round partner Simcon offers next to the software products Cadmould® and Varimos® comprehensive engineering services related to the injection molding simulation and supports the implementation of sophisticated development tasks.

The superalloys tree: structure/property relationship, performances and advanced applications

Dr., Eng., PhD, DHC, Prof. Mario Rosso, born in 1949, got a Master degree in Chemical Engineering, with specialization in Electrochemistry and Metallurgy at the Politecnico di Torino in January 1974. After the Military Service, since April 1975 he was researcher at the Politecnico di Torino, then Associate Professor in 1982, finally in 2000 he was in nominated full Professor of "Metallurgy" at the Department of Applied Science and Technology of Politecnico di Torino. Up to last year he had in charge the courses: "Manufacturing Technologies", "Technology of Metallic Materials" and "Metallurgical Plants", while since 2015/16 he is teaching a basic course on "Metallic Materials" and a fully new course: "Engineering of High Performance Alloys". The scientific work of Mario Rosso, is beard out by more than 400 papers concerning surface engineering of steels and of sintered alloys, heat treatments, high performances coatings through thermal spray and PVD processes, surface layers properties, corrosion and wear resistance, Hard Metals, Powder Metallurgy and MIM, formability of alloys and steels, performances of dies for diecasting, hot and cold working tools, heat checking and thermal fatigue resistance; properties of light alloys, influence of casting processes, as well as contribution to the development of innovative casting technologies. Mario Rosso has the scientific responsibility of many R&D national and European research projects, recently he collected different international scientific awards at the Silesian University of Technology of Gliwice (Poland), at the Institute of materials Research of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, Kosice, Slovakia and Doctor Honoris Causa at the University of Craiova (Romania). Moreover, he is a member of editorial board, as well as of scientific committees for some international journals and for International Conferences. Chairman of the 7th International Tooling Conference, Torino May 2nd-5th, 2006. Coordinator and responsible of the post degree Master course of "Jewellery Engineering" at the Alessandria campus of Politecnico di Torino.

Dr. Russell Speight is the Director at Moldflow Engineering, Director at Autodesk Australia Pty Ltd. and the Kilsyth Facility Site Leader. In the UK, Russell, lectured and researched in Computing Aided Manufacturing (CAM), University of Bradford. Since 1995 he worked has worked at Autodesk Moldflow Research and Development, Australia. At Autodesk he is responsible for Moldflow Simulation Product Development, including Product Validation and Material Testing Laboratories. Since 2009 has held the position of Honorary Visiting Professor of Polymer Process Measurement Technology, University of Bradford, Advanced Materials Engineering.

New perspectives for powder metallurgical tool steels

Massimo Pellizzari was born in 1970, in Bolzano, Italy and got his Master Degree in Materials Engineering in 1996 at the University of Trento. In 2000 he got a PhD in Metallurgical Engineering at the University of Padova. Since 2006 prof. Pellizzari is associate professor at the University of Trento. His research activity is mostly focused on heat treatment and surface engineering of steels, deep cryogenic treatment, the properties of tool steels, special cast irons and the development of powder metallurgical tool steel by ball milling and Spark Plasma Sintering. He’s author of more than 60 papers in peer reviewed international journals and, since 2015, he’s member of the executive committee of the International Federation for Heat Treatment and Surface Engineering (IFHTSE).

GENERATION OF MODIFIED WETTABILITY METALLIC SURFACES BY SHORT PULSE LASERS

Prof. Dr. Ing. José L. Ocaña is MSc. (1979) and PhD. (1982) in Industrial Engineering (Mechanics, Energy and Materials) at the Polytechnical University of Madrid (Spain). Chair Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the ETSII-UPM School of Engineering and Director of the UPM Laser Centre at this University. He has actively promoted and participated in national (Spain) and worldwide R&D initiatives in the field of scientific and industrial applications of high power lasers, especially in high intensity laser-matter interaction, laser welding, laser surface treatments, laser micromachining and on-line monitoring and control of industrial laser applications. As a result, he is author/coauthor of more than 200 scientific papers and more than 250 communications in the field of laser technology and applications. He is member of multiple scientific committees and editorial boards in the field of laser technology and applications. Former Chairman of EULASNET II (Eureka Umbrella Network for Laser Technology and Applications), Vice-President of the Executive Board of the European Laser Institute (ELI) and Co-Chairman of the 4th International Conference on Laser Peening and Related Phenomena (Madrid 2013). He has received several prizes related to his research activity.

Prof.Dr. Friedrich Bleicher is currently the Head of the Institute of Production Engineering and Laser Technology at TU Wien - Vienna University of Technology. During his career he has concentrated his research activities on development and optimization of machining processes (cutting technologies) with geometrically defined cutting edge, grinding technologies, development and optimization of new machine tools solutions for cutting applications, robot machining, manufacturing automation, adaptronic and hybrid machining technologies, ECM-technologies and rapid manufacturing. He also spent part of his career in the industry where he transferred his scientific knowledge into practical world. He has also earned many scientific awards and honors in Austria and abroad. He regularly serves as a keynote and invited speaker on scientific conferences around the globe.

Mitja Kolbe has an engineering background in process automation and intelligent systems and a master in business administration, backed by experience in sales and marketing, product management, business development and leadership. He has worked for more than 12 years in the IT industry and switched to the steel sector in 2015 by joining SIJ group. His responsibility in SIJ is Business development and strategy, which includes Mergers and acquisitions, an important aspect of the group’s expansion and transformation strategy. Mitja is proud father of three children and an enthusiast recreational athlete with several completed marathons and long triathlons (Ironman).
